Chapter 4/7 The path of three
“That’s a good question…” the calm man agrees with a piercing look towards Hákon. “Wasn’t there a ledger, or something? Or a daily report about you departing for water? And how could you kill that many people… and guards… alone… at your age… no offence Hákon”
“They accused me of hiring mercenaries to kill everyone and that I left the place so they can do their work, so that in exchange for the artifacts they will give me money. Hákon looks broken. “So I’m here because they accused me of killing thirty-seven people, that I never did.”
“Thirty-seven?” The brute exclaims “It was a big excavation.”
“Nice story old man” the calm one adds in his ever cynical tone.
“I still don’t know why I’m here… don’t even know who I’am.” fear sits out on the girl’s face again with tears start running down on her cheeks.
“Maybe it’s better this way.” The calm man responds. “My name’s Laszlo, and I’m innocent too. I was an agent of queen Pordis Tanaman of Medlon County”.
The girl is now sobbing “What kind of… agent…?” she asks.
“The kind that solves problems for a queen and county.” he says with that smirk again. “I’ve been trained since I was a little child… to… you know… solve certain problems in certain special ways, that others might not have the guts to solve.” before anyone can throw a question at him he continues “So I’ve worked for that whore for fifteen years, and of course because of a confusion of identity I was incarcerated and sent here to enjoy your company.” he forces a smile.
“Tell us that story of mistaken identity.” Hákon says in a much sarcastic tone “So we won’t get too bored.” he looks at Laszlo, and almost bursts out with laugher.
“Okay… okay… just give me a second” Laszlo takes a deep breath, and then looks up. “I had a task in Relnd, needed to gather some information on some people there. I’ve been there for a year when I received an encrypted message to abort mission and leave immediately. It wasn’t suspicious so I acted to it. I burned every trace of myself being there and thought out some story about why I need to leave and where I’m going. It all coincided with information I gathered about the king of Relnd. It wasn’t my task, not even close, but accidentally I ran into a meeting and heard some interesting things about the royal family and their duchess. Everybody hates them as you know… except you” he points and nods at the girl “I guess… so I thought it would be an interesting extra to offer to the queen, so I messaged back to the headquarters, awaiting further orders and that’s when I received that message to abort everything.”
