Chapter 4/5 The path of three

“Okay then, just asked.” the calm man apologizes half-heartedly.

“What is the explorer’s league?” the girl asks

“Guild of explorers.” Hákon corrects her. “It is a continent-wide organization. They are exploring uncharted territories, mapping areas, searching for relics, artifacts, information of the past… They are present in every county, they have lone treasure hunters and whole excavation groups for expeditions as well. They help uncovering many secrets, and also dangers.”

“Hmm… don’t remember” The girl’s tone is confused and ever scared.

“And why they brought you here, on this boat?” brute asks.

“It’s a long story” Hákon waves nonchalantly.

“I think time is pretty much all we have here, so why don’t you tell us? At least we won’t be bored all the way to our destination.” calm man comments with an ironically tired sigh.

Hákon looks around then he pulls his gaze to the girl, who stares at him curiously. “Well… all right… I was posted on an excavation near the shores of Etmer. There is a small group within the guild that is specialized on the old ones, and they were the ones digging there too.”

“Old ones?” the girl interrupts him.

“Oh yes, you don’t remember anything do you?” says Hákon with a smile.

“Old ones are fairy-tale… myths” the calm man’s voice is full of cynicism, before he yawns.

Hákon’s smile won’t go away “Well, some think they are more than just that, a whole segment of the guild of explorers actually. So the old ones are beings of unimaginable power, the legends say they ruled the world before mankind, even before beasts. They had power to control many essences, many living beings and some say even life and death. But nobody knows what the truth is. One thing’s for sure, there is evidence of beings with immense power all around the continent. Nobody knows what they were, where they came from, or where are they now. Remember anything about this?” Hákon asks the girl.

She thinks hard, before she replies with a simple. “No”
