Chapter 3/13 The path of the rookie
Anna walks out from the kitchen still chewing something “Yes? What can I do for you?” she asks “Oh sorry I haven’t finished my dinner yet.” she apologizes putting her hand in front of her mouth.
“Oh no problem at all” Felix says her in an easygoing way, waving his hand. “Can I join? My partner left and when he comes back we will question you, so I thought we can talk until then.” Felix asks with that huge grin of his, looking Anna straight in the eye.
Anna looks at him confused, like she’s not sure about his intentions, but seconds later she turns casual again “Of course, come… Felix Am I right?”
“You are!” he replies with a bigger smile, then follows her into the kitchen. The soft orange light of the fire burning in the stove lights the room up, that is oozing with the smell of freshly cooked stew. There is only one empty plate on the table with some leftovers in it.
“Oh where are my manners… would you like something to eat?” her tone is apologetic ”Sorry I’m a bit flaky nowadays, with all those people missing. Don’t know what to do.” she says while putting her hand to her forehead and closes her eyes, shaken.
“We are here to help, so you don’t need to worry anymore and of all… don’t worry about me, I’m not hungry thanks” Felix replies reassuringly “Maybe I should really leave her alone…” he wonders.
Anna sits down and signals Felix to sit in front of her. The young venator doesn’t hesitate for a moment, as he slips into the chair. “So you’re a rookie?” she asks Felix, with a smile.
“Kind of… not completely you see… I’ve been training for years now, and passed many trials, dangerous ones… So that’s more like just an official title… rookie… that’s why he calls me that, but of course that doesn’t mean that I’m a beginner or some assistant” Felix says, waving around his as hands as he explains. “So “rookie”, it’s just the official title, he needs to call me that, rules… you know.” he says with his signature cheeky smile
“Sure” Anna responds confused and amused the same time. “I too am kind of a rookie myself you know…” she explains “My father died, almost a year ago and I needed to take his place. It is so overwhelming” her face turns sad “I’m still getting used to running a village and now the disappearances too… I start to feel I’m not really cut out for it.” she lets out a big sigh.
“Oh don’t worry that’s why I…” Felix begins.
“That’s why we’re here for” Wymond steps into the room interrupting him. “So Anna I have some questions for you.”
